If it were possible for the law to impart life, then righteousness would have been attainable through adherence to it. However, the law's purpose was to lead people to Christ by showing the need for a savior. This underscores the significance of faith in Jesus Christ as the means to righteousness, fulfilling God's promises. The law and the promises work together, with the law pointing to the need for faith and the promises being fulfilled in Christ. This teaching reassures believers that their faith in Christ is the true path to righteousness, not merely following the law.
Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law.
